Low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal to intensify further

The low pressure area in the south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression during next 24 hours and likely to intensify further.

This system is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards to the north coast of Sri Lanka. It will affect weather over the island and surrounding sea areas during next few days.

Several spells of showers will occur at several places in Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places.

Fairly strong gusty winds (30-40) kmph can be expected in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces.

General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
