Low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal to intensify further

The low pressure area in the south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify in to a Depression during next 36 hours and likely to intensify further, stated the Meteorology Department.

The system is likely to move nearly westwards to the North coast of Sri Lanka. It will affect weather over the island and surrounding sea areas during next few days.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva, Central, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls about 50mm are likely at some places.

Showers can be expected at a few places in Eastern province.

General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
