CWE driver, assistant gone missing while transporting goods

A driver and a driver assistant of the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) have reportedly gone missing while they were on duty transporting a consignment of goods from the Boossa CWE Wholesale Stores Complex, Rathgama Police said.

The consignment of goods worth Rs.4,917,000 was to be dispatched to two retail shops in Homagama. The Rathgama Police had received a complaint regarding the incident.

The lorry with the registration No. SP LI 5910 with the load of goods had left the Boossa CWE wholesale stores around 6.30 p.m. on Friday (13). Later, Rathgama Police who initiated investigations into the complaint had detected the lorry near the Orugodawatta CWE main stores. However, the consignment of goods was not found in the lorry.

Thereafter, the empty lorry was brought to the Rathgama police station. However police officers had failed to contact the driver and his assistant over their phones. The driver is a resident of Shravasthipura while the assistant is from Nugegoda. CWE had hired the lorry from a person in Dickwella for the transport of their goods, police said.

A group of officers led by Rathgama OIC IP Prabath Withana following instructions of Galle SSP Vikum Ginige and SP Dulshan Nagahawatta have initiated investigations.
