Only 05 deaths from the total death toll reported during the coronavirus pandemic have been reported as COVID deaths in Sri Lanka, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCP) said.
Head of the NOCPC Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said the Secretary to the Health Ministry has verified that the remaining deaths are not caused mainly by the virus, but due to other chronic diseases.
Public suffering from chronic diseases have been urged to obtain medical attention when necessary and not remain at home due to the quarantine restrictions.
The Army Commander said that special arrangements have been made for those who require urgent medical assistance in areas under lockdown, by providing ambulances to be transferred to hospitals.
Not everyone who contracts the coronavirus will end up dead, while only close to 0.2% have been reported to have died due to the virus, he said, urging people in dire need to seek medical treatment without fear. (NewsWire)
