Advisory for rough seas, heavy rain and strong wind issued

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued a warning of heavy rain, rough sea and strong wind for Eastern-Northern Land and Sea areas.

According to the warning issued, "the disturbance over southeast Bay of Bengal has developed into a Low Pressure Area (2N-10N,83E-93E) in the morning today. (0300UTC, 21-11-2020). It is expected to intensify further into a depression during next 24-48 hours. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Eastern and Northern coast of Sri Lanka on 24 of November.

During November 23rd -25th very heavy rains above 150 mm can be expected at some places in Northern, Eastern and North Central provinces and the wind speed can be increased up to (40 -50)kmph.

The Department of Meteorology advises that people should: be alert on the advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology. People living in Eastern, Northern and North-Central provinces are requested to be vigilant.

For emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
