Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has reportedly appointed several close relatives to his staff.
According to the Divaina newspaper, the Speaker’s main staff consists of his close relatives.
The Speaker is also reported to have requested for cabinet approval to recruit 05 project secretaries, among which one post is likely to be offered to his 4th brother Janaka Yapa Abeywardena, Divaina reported.
The appointments made thus far as reported by Divaina newspaper;
- Private Secretary – Wasantha Yapa Abeywardena (Brother)
- Media Secretary – Sarath Yapa Abeywardena (Brother)
- 2 Coordinating Secretaries- Indunil Yapa Abeywardena (brother) and Chameera Yapa Abeywardena (son)
- Public Relations Officer – Premananda Komasaru (brother –in-law)
The appointments come despite a request made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from all Government officials to refrain from appointing family members to their personal staff cadre. (NewsWire)
