Seven held with illegal drugs

The seized illegal drugs.

A number of special search operations conducted by the Navy and Police in the Northwestern, Southern and Eastern Naval Commands from September 30 to October 6 had made way to the apprehension of seven suspects with narcotic substances.

Incidentally, the Northwestern Naval Command in coordination with the Puttalam Police nabbed a suspect with 80mg of Crystal Methamphetamine (ICE) and another person with about 1g and 300mg of heroin during search operations in Karambe and Palaviya areas.

Similarly, the Southern Naval Command together with the Hambantota Police Anti-Corruption Unit apprehended three suspects in possession of 1g and 599mg of heroin, during a coordinated search carried out in Suchi Village, Hambantota.

In another combined operation conducted near the Muthur bus stand, the Eastern Naval Command and Muthur Police held a suspect with 1g of heroin as well. Meanwhile, another person in possession of 10g of Kerala cannabis had been apprehended during a search carried out with the assistance of Kalawanchikudi Police STF in Valaichchenai area.

The accused held in these separate operations were identified as persons from Karambe, Palaviya, Hambantota, Muthur and Valaichchenai areas and ranged from 21 to 43 years of age. The apprehended persons together with narcotic substances were handed over to the Police stations of Puttalam, Hambantota, Muthur and Valaichchenai for onward investigations.
