Navy arrests seven persons with narcotics

A number of special search operations conducted by the Navy and Police in the Northwestern, Southern, and Eastern Naval Commands from September 30 to October 6 saw the arrests of seven suspects possessing narcotics.

The Northwestern Naval Command, in coordination with the Puttalam Police, nabbed a suspect with 80mg of crystal methamphetamine and another person with 1.3g of heroin during search operations in Karambe and Palaviya. Similarly, the Southern Naval Command, together with Hambantota Police Anti-Corruption Unit, apprehended three suspects possessing 1.599g of heroin during a coordinated search carried out in the Suchi village of Hambantota.

In another combined operation conducted near the Muthur bus stand, the Eastern Naval Command and Muthur Police arrested a suspect with 1g of heroin. Meanwhile, another person possessing 10g of Kerala cannabis was apprehended during a search carried out with the assistance of Kalawanchikudi STF personnel in Valaichchenai.

The accused are between the ages of 21 and 43. Both them and the seized narcotics were handed over to the respective police stations for further investigations.
