‘National Electronic Waste Management Week -2020”

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and the Department of Posts have jointly declared the week from October 5 to 10 as the ‘National Electronic Waste Management Week -2020” to commemorate World Postal Day, which falls on October 9.

Speaking at a media conference held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that an island wide programme to collect e-wastes is to be implemented during this week under the theme of “A Breathing Country, A Sri Lanka; Free of Electronic Waste with the financial assistance of Sri Lanka Telecom/ Mobitel.”

People will be able to handover e-waste in their houses to post offices during this week from 8 am to 4 pm.

“Under this programne, all kinds of e-waste except tube lights, refrigerators,equipment that are disjoint or of which internal parts are removed, equipment which are stained with earth, sand or mud and e-wastes that are brought by industrial organizations and reading shops will be accepted,” the Minister said.
