Arrest Rishad, two others on warrants - AG

Attorney General Dappula De Livera PC has instructed the acting IGP to obtain a warrant from the relevant Magistrate's court to arrest MP Rishad Bathiudeen and two others.

Attorney General's Coordinating officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Attorney General directed to the acting IGP to obtain warrants against former Minister Rishad Bathuideen, IDP Resettlement Project Director Samsudeen Mohamed Yaseen and its accountant Algarathnam Manoranjan over the incident and produce them before the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

They are to be charged of Criminal Misappropriation of Rs.9.5 million public funds and Violation of Election Laws for the transporting IDPs using 222 CTB buses from Puttalam to Silawathura to vote at the 2019 Presidential election.

The Attorney General observed that there is reasonable suspicion to name them as suspects over the incident and file charges under Section 82 (1) of Presidential Election Act, No 15 of 1981, she said.
