World Tourism Day today

Sri Lanka will join the global community to celebrate the World Tourism Day amid the Covid-19 pandemic under the banner ‘Tourism and Rural Development’.

The official event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and the Department of Trade Commerce and Tourism of Central Provincial Council held at the Kandy City Center today at 9.00am.

“This is an important event. We will have to restart tourism during a pandemic. The main focus of the event will be to promote domestic tourism till international travel is restored,” Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

It will be followed by the Tourism Leaders’ Summit (TLS) themed ‘A Way Forward for Sustainable Tourism Development: Knowledge, Innovation, Policy, Synergy’, and International Tourism Research Conference (ITRC) that will explore ‘Crisis Management and Resilience Building for Sustainable Tourism Development’. Both events are organised by the Tourism Study Programs at the University of Colombo.
