School canteens to open from Monday

The Education Ministry has allowed school heads to open school canteens from Monday (14).

The school canteens remained closed for a few months following the COVID 19 outbreak. School authorities are allowed to open canteens from Monday after considering the present situation.

However, health guidelines should be followed strictly once the canteens are opened. An awareness programme is carried out in this regard. On the directives of Education Minister Prf. G.L. Peiris, Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera has taken measures to make school authorities aware of this situation through the Provincial, Zonal and Divisional Education Directors.

They will be advised to maintain social distancing and adequate measures to avoid students flocking at canteens in large numbers during intervals.

The foods would be sent to classrooms during intervals after orders were taken in the morning, a proposal has been made.
