Measures to construct two LNG Power Plants by 2023 - Dullas

Minister of Power Dullas Alahapperuma stated that steps will be taken to construct two Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plants by 2023.

This was stated by the Minister Dullas Alahapperuma during a visit to the Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd.

“Only 300 MW has been added to the national grid during the last five years. However the demand for electricity is increasing by 6% per year. Accordingly, the problems faced by the country in the future cannot be avoided”, Minister added.

While the contribution of green and renewable energy should be increased by 70% by the year 2030 and the current 32% contribution of diesel electricity should be reduced to 5%.Obstacles to the implementation of generation plans should be removed. Our current contribution to renewable energy is only 900 MW and we hope to double this by 2023,” Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
