Journalist Jabbar’s death: Family sets record straight

The family of journalist Zacky Jabbar, who was found dead inside his house recently, have said they do not have any suspicions over his untimely death, the Island reported.

Jabbar’s elder brother Salman Jabbar said various baseless claims made by certain individuals over the death has caused immense grief to family members.

The Police and Judiciary have concluded that they do not suspect foul play, the public have been requested not to be misled by false claims, Salman added.

Jabbar, a journalist attached to “the Island” newspaper, was found dead inside his house by Slaman on Wednesday (09).

The Thalangama Police had thereafter been notified, following which a thorough investigation had been conducted.

Meanwhile, the Island Newspaper notifying the death of their employee said they did not have suspicions when Jabbar failed to report to work for over a week as he was a frequent traveler and it was usual practice for him not to report to work for days on end.

The paper said, it was aware that Jabbar had last checked his whatsapp on 19 August.

However, as his absence had raised questions, the newspaper had discreetly inquired about his whereabouts from his friends and acquaintances following which they had contacted Jabbar’s brother Salman.

Salman had then informed the newspaper of Jabbar’s unusual absence from a family wedding following which he had visited his brother’s house and found him dead, the Island newspaper reported.

Zacky Jabbar entered the field of journalism in 1985 by joining the now defunct Sun newspaper after having worked at Browns.

He joined The Island in the mid-80s and served until his demise.

The Island newspaper further said Zacky Jabbar specialised in covering the political round with very close contacts in the UNP and the previous government. (NewsWire)
