Castlereagh and Maussakele reach spill levels

The water level in Castlereagh and Maussakele reservoirs has reached spill levels following incessant rains experienced in the Central Hills during the last two days. Officials from the Mahaweli authority stated that at around 6.30 am yesterday, the water level in Castlereagh Reservoir was less than 04 feet 03 inches and the water level in Maussakele Reservoir was 8 feet 9 inches below the overflow level.

He further said that the water levels in these reservoirs are rising rapidly due to the prevailing rains and steps are being taken to generate maximum hydropower by utilizing the water in these reservoirs.
