World Schools Debating Championship Final : Introducing the Sri Lanka team

Introducing the National Debate Team of Sri Lanka which has qualified for the final at the World Schools Debating Championship.

The six-member team consists of Janul de Silva and Shalem Sumanthiran from Royal College Colombo, Rahul de Silva and Jasmine Markandu from the Colombo International School, Chanidu Ratnayake from Ananda College Colombo and Reiha Wimalasekera from ladies’ College Colombo.

Sanjith Dias and Kithmina Hewage are the coaches of the National Debate Team of Sri Lanka.

The National Debate Team of Sri Lanka will face Team Canada in the Final scheduled for Sunday, 02 August.

Team Sri Lanka qualified for the final after defeating Team Ireland 7-0 in the semi-final.

The World Schools Debating Championship is the World Cup of English debating at school level with each country being represented by one team.

Sixty- eight (68) countries are reported to have participated in the championship this year.

The tournament which was supposed to be held in Mexico is being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Grand Final between Team Canada and Team Sri Lanka will begin at 7pm (SL time) on Sunday. (Newswire)
