Twenty parties, 34 independent groups vie for seven slots

Twenty registered political parties and 34 independent groups have fielded 530 candidates and seven members will be elected. Ampara District Assistant Elections Commissioner Thilina Wickramaratna said that everything needed for holding the 2020 General Election on August 5 in the Digamadulla Electorate is ready now. He said that about 6,000 state officials will be deployed for election duties. “Ballot boxes will be handed over to Senior Presiding Officers (SPOs) at the Ampara Hardy Technical College on August 4 from 7.30 am,” he said. “The district has 28,668 postal voters. About 525 polling centres have been set up. Ampara has 181, Sammanthuurai 93, Kalmunai 74, and Pottuvil 177,” he said. The counting will be taken place at 74 centres at the Ampara Hardy Technical College.
