SLTB buses involved in school transport services painted yellow on President’s directive

All Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses used for school transport services have been painted yellow, as per a proposal made in July for the protection of school children.

All private vehicles engaged in the transportation of school children are also set to gradually be painted in yellow as per the proposal.

The move comes after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had advised that all buses and vans involved in school transport services must be painted in yellow.

Following this, Minister of Transport Services Mahinda Amaraweera had announced that it was mandatory for all buses and vans used for school transport services to be painted in yellow.

The decision was taken after a discussion with Associations of vans used for school transport services and the Police, during which Minister Amaraweera had proposed that both buses and vans used for school transport services must be painted in yellow.

The representatives of the relevant Associations and the Police had consented to the proposal, noting the threat posed to vehicles transporting school children and prioritizing their safety.

Minister Amaraweera had further said all future importations for this purpose will also be in yellow in order to maintain road discipline.

As the first step of the proposal, all SLTB buses used for school transport services have been painted yellow. (Newswire)
