Nabbed with heroin

Mount Lavinia Police arrested a woman with 2.1 grams of heroin yesterday. The suspect was a 55 year-old resident of Ratmalana.

She was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Mount Lavinia Police are investigating.

Another woman was arrested with 8.45 grams of heroin by Borella Police.

The suspect was a 52-year old resident of Borella.

She was produced before the Maligakande Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Borella Police are investigating.

 

Arrested with firearm

Kithulgala Police arrested a suspect with a 12 bore firearm along with four bullets in Bibilioya.

 

Hacked to death

A man has been hacked to death with a sharp instrument by an unidentified person at the Andadola Junction in the Ambalangoda Police Division yesterday.

The victim was pronounced dead on admission to the Balapitiya Hospital.

The deceased was identified as a 39 year-old resident of Paragahatota. Ambalangoda Police are investigating.

Road accident

One died and a woman and a child were injured when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a tractor in Namalgama in the Welikande Police Division.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead upon admission to the hospital.

A woman and a child injured in the accident were transferred to the Polonnaruwa Hospital, police said.

The deceased was identified as 24 year-old resident of Welikanda.

The tractor driver was arrested, police said.

Welikanda Police are investigating.

The suspect (59) is a resident of Kithulgala. He was produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Kithulgala Police are investigating.

 

Eight treasure hunters arrested

Ruwanwella Police arrested eight treasure hunters along with a set of equipment, while they were digging a location for treasure in Ihala Moraliya.

A car, three wheeler and a motorcycle have been seized.

The suspects in the age group of 26 – 54 are residents of Kosgama, Puwakpitiya, Mihintale, Avissawella, Ruwanwella and Sigiriya.

They were produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Ruwanwella police are investigating.
