Venerable Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thero has called on the Government to help locate the General Secretary of the Ape Jana Bala Party Venerable Wedinigama Wimalatissa Thero who is reported missing.
The Ape Jana Bala Party consists of a majority of monks including General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Venerable Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero, Venerable Athureliya Rathana Thero, and Venerable Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thero.
The Ape Jana Bala Party had secured a single National List seat in the General Elections 2020 that was held on 05 August.
After much tension and deliberation, the party had decided to nominate Venerable Gnanasara Thero via the National List to represent the party in Parliament.
However, General Secretary of the Party Venerable Wimalatissa Thero, who is in charge of informing the National Election Commission on the party’s decision, is reported to have gone missing.
The General Secretary of a political party has the legal authority to inform the National Election Commission on the appointment of a member.
According to reports, General Secretary of the Party Venerable Wimalatissa Thero is said to have nominated his name via the National List prior to his disappearance. (Newswire)
