Lebanon Explosion : Slight damages to SL embassy 10KM away, 78 dead so far

The Sri Lankan Ambassador in Lebanon says due to yesterday’s explosion, the Sri Lankan Embassy situated 10km from the explosion site in Beirut was slightly damaged.

He said so far they have reports of only 1 Sri Lankan injured in the blast.

Yesterday’s huge blast rocked Lebanon’s capital, killing at least 78 and wounding more than 4,000.

The Lebanese PM has vowed that ‘those responsible will pay the price’ amid reports that thousands tons of ammonium nitrate were detonated.

Lebanon Health Minister Hamad Hasan said an explosion in the centre of the city had injured at least 4,000 people and caused extensive damage.

He said that those who can leave the city should, saying the hazardous materials in the air after the explosion can have long-term deadly effects.

The president of Lebanon said on Twitter that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse for six years without safety measures. (NewsWire)
