President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will present the Government’s Policy Statement at the ceremonial sitting of the first session of the ninth Parliament on Thursday, August 20.
The President will chair the inaugural meeting on August 20 at 3 pm and the statement of the Government’s policy as per Article 33(2) of the Constitution will be read by the President.
President Rajapaksa on his arrival will be received by the Speaker of Parliament and the Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake at the main staircase of the Parliament building, followed by the hoisting of the Presidential flag.
The President will be accompanied to Parliament by the Sergeant-at-Arms, Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms, Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms followed by the Speaker of Parliament and the Secretary General of Parliament where he will present the Government’s Policy Statement.
After electing the Speaker of Parliament, followed by the Members’ oath or affirmation, the Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairman of Committees will be elected.
