Writ petition filed requesting to arrest Kurunegala Mayor

Former JVP Parliamentarian Namal Karunaratne today filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an order directing the police to arrest Kurunegala Mayor over the offence of demolition of the King’s Court built by King second Buvanekabahu.  
 
Filing this petition through counsel Sunil Watagala, the petitioner had named Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne, OIC of Headquarters Police Station in Kurunegala Kapila Adikari, Director General of Archaeology Prof. Senarath Dissanayake, the Mayor of Kurunegala Municipal Council Thushara Sanjeewa, Kurunegala Municipal Council and Attorney General as respondents in the petition.
 
The petitioner stated that in the middle of Kurunegala town there was an ancient King’s Court (Raja Sabhawa) said to have been built by King Second Buvanekabahu who reigned Kurunegala Kingdom during the period from 1293-1302.
