UNP best to address needs of women, youth - Shanthini

Former Provincial Councillor and UNP Kandy district candidate Shanthini Kongahage, said voters should vote for the party that has prioritised the needs of women and children in their manifestos, because for too long the aspirations of youth and women have been long ignored.

“When we think of women in politics of Sri Lanka the first name that comes to mind is the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike, for she is the only one who set an example of a woman who worked hard and continued with her political career despite many obstacles,” she said.

“Now when women enter politics, they find that there is no level playing field and that they cannot survive it, so they leave it. But I, hailing from a segment of the society that has been marginalized, vow to work hard for youth, women and children.”

Kongahage is hailed as a member of the Central Provincial Council who bravely critics political parties whenever an injustice occurs.

Kongahage who is confident of victory the United National Party (UNP ) led by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has a number of new projects and programmes to be implemented for the benefit of the low income groups.

Those projects are designed for the benefit of the women and the youth in particular. Kongahage appeals to Kandy district voters to support the United National Party (UNP) and herself to enter Parliament from the Kandy district.
