Probe into PNB officers’ drug deals expedited

Investigations regarding the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers arrested on drug trafficking charges have been expedited, DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday.

The police intend to request the Attorney General to file indictments as soon as possible and seek the death sentence against them, DIG Rohana said.

Addressing a media briefing at the Police Headquarters yesterday (10) he said they will present indictments through the Attorney General and conclude this process as soon as possible and seek a High Court Trial-at-Bar.

So far, 18 PNB officers and three other persons have been arrested by the CID. “The offences committed by these officers are punishable by the death sentence. Therefore, we will not cut them any slack and ensure they are given the highest penalty for their crimes.”
