People deserve lasting peace and prosperity – Dullas Alahapperuma

“The people deserve lasting peace and prosperity. A party with clear vision has to be in power to achieve it. The United National Party (UNP) now has two factions. They have no future plans to develop the country since they have to resolve internal rifts first. Many of their stalwarts are leaving the party and rallying round the SLPP now,” Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and Matara District SLPP team leader Dullas Alahapperuma said

He said an overwhelming victory for the SLPP is defnite at the upcoming General Election, so two thirds majority in Parliament is assured now.

He was speaking at a SLPP election rally in Pahalavitiyala, Thihagoda recently.

Minister Alahapperuma said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is committed to provide a sound education for children. “The country has only 373 national schools. The Education Ministry will increase the number to 1,000,” the Minister said.

“The youth must be provided with the knowledge of modern technology and skills development for them to find jobs. The Matara District is one of the poor districts in the country. The rate of unemployment is sky high now. The previous regime did not address the pressing issues of the youth in the district. The Government will take measures to enroll 30,000 jobless graduates to the Education Ministry and another batch of A/L qualified young men and women will be recruited as teaching assistants,” he said.

He said a labour force of 100,000 jobless young men and women and school leavers with the minimum educational qualification are set up. A six-month training will be provided to them in job sectors they have selected, and then they will be absorbed to the state sector. Unlike the good governance regime, the Government led by Gotabaya Rajapaksa will treat all graduates equally,” he said.

“The lack of majority in Parliament for the Government has been an obstacle. No necessary funds were allocated even for development projects as a result,” the Minister said.

He said that in the President’s vision of Progress and Prosperity, the country is in the right direction now. Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Nirmal Samasinhe and several others spoke.
