Country needs a new Constitution - Basil

It has become essential to introduce a new Constitution to Sri Lanka after the General Election 2020. A new Constitution should be designed to safeguard the democratic rights of all Sri Lankans, said the founder and National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Basil Rajapaksa.

He was speaking at a meeting of SLPP supporters at Polgahawela electorate of the Kurunegala District yesterday.

He said a new Constitution should protect the country and interests of all citizens.

It should not be promulgated by bowing down to the whims and fancies of people with various ulterior motives and interests. For this genuine effort, the SLPP under the leadership of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa should have a two thirds majority in the new Parliament. “President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is now waging a war to put an end to the activities of drug traffickers that operate locally and with international connections. These drug barons need to be quelled if we are to save the country and its citizens. The President has also launched a successful countrywide operation with the support of the Armed Forces and Police to eradicate underworld activities that have threatened the innocent people of this country for a long time,” Basil Rajapaksa said.

“The President and Prime Minister are doing their utmost to make this country self-sufficient in food with peace and harmony for all people to live as children of one mother. The voters of this country have to understand their responsibility at this critical juncture and cast their votes for the SLPP for the country to see a prosperous future,” he added.
