‘SLPP will win eight of 11 electorates from Ratnapaura’

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and its coalition will definitely win eight parliamentary seats of the 11 from the Ratnapura District at the forthcoming general elections in August, former Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said.

He was addressing a press briefing at the SLPP Ratnapura district office yesterday.

The former minister said that when the number of votes that Gotabaya Rajapaksa received from the district at the last Presidential Election is taken into account, the SLPP will get seven parliamentary seats from the district at the general elections. He said that the country needs a government with a two/thirds majority for the President to carry out his vision for the country, and this election will provide him with the majority needed for the change, the former minister said.

“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have given the leadership to defeat the COVID 19 pandemic and the people lauded them for their effort in this regard. Health staff, tri-forces and every other section in the battle inspired by the vision and mission of the leaderships,” the former minister said.

He said that the country has no opposition now as the United National Party has divided. SLPP candidate former provincial member Akila Ellawala will take the majority of votes in Ratnapura at the election this time, he said.
