Sri Lankan media community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Thilini Pavithra, a young provincial newspaper journalist. Police said she died after self immolation.
Ms. Pavithra died in hospital yesterday after a few days’ treatment proved futile.
Police suspect the journalist had died by suicide due to a “personal, family issue” but are further investigating the death.
Thilini Pavithra had worked for many Sinhala newspapers from Kurunegala District, writing news stories from her area.
Meanwhile, a 26 year old police constable attached to Madhampe Police also died due to suicide yesterday.
