Police to monitor bus timetables

It has been observed that long-distance buses plying from Colombo to the outstations sometimes take longer than specified by the Passenger Transport Authority or in some instances, complete their commute in a lesser time frame than stipulated, the Police Media Division said yesterday.

In instances where the bus drivers complete their commute in a shorter time span than stipulated, it has been observed that the lives of passengers and property are at risk as these buses travel at high speed.

On the other hand, in instances where the bus drivers take longer to complete their run, the passengers are inconvenienced as it is a waste of their time.

Therefore, the Police will now monitor the departure times of the buses and their timetables and the time these buses take to complete their journey. In the first instance, the drivers would be issued warnings and thereafter, legal action would be initiated against them.
