NPP fielding strong set of candidates - Bimal

Former JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Rathnayake yesterday said that Sri Lanka has become a football of world powers.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday, Rathnayake said that previous Governments entered into a number of bilateral agreements which are detrimental to the country at the behest of world powers. “The country does not need pseudo patriots. The country needs a set of people who actually love this country,” he said.

Rathnayake said that Parliament should be represented by individuals who are willing to give an ear to the people’s grievances. “There were 10 Parliamentarians in the last parliament who did not utter a single word for the people whom they represented,” he said

Rathnayake said that independent research groups have outlined that JVP Parliamentarians are more active than legislators who represented any other party in Parliament.

“The Jathika Jana Balavegaya has fielded a strong set of candidates for the upcoming General election and they have a proper understanding of the problems faced by the people,” he said

Rathnayake said that the commissions have revealed that 118 persons are responsible for the Central Bank bond scam and some of them have been become candidates vying for the forthcoming General Election, he said

He said that Jathika Jana Balawegaya national list comprises 29 individuals and most of them are professionals and university lecturers and professors.
