The mock counting was held as a rehearsal to the counting of ballot papers in the forthcoming parliamentary election 2020 to be held on August 5. Ballot papers of five polling booths had taken for the counting. The officers who took part in the mock counting observed all health rules including sanitizing hands, keeping the one meter distance and wearing face masks and carried out the counting until the final stage of preferential votes.

Galle District Secretary and Returning Officer Somarathna Vidanapathirana said a decision has been taken to increase the number of counting centers aimed at conducting the counting without unwanted practical delays.
