The Government is now exploring the possibility of increasing the monthly Mahapola allowance given to University students from Rs.5000 to Rs.7000, says Parakrama Bandara, Director of the Mahapola Scholarship Fund.
About 35,000 students are now receiving the Mahapola Scholarship allowances. The Mahapola allowance is to be paid for March, April, and May 2020 even though the state Universities were closed for studies during these months due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
“About 140 million rupees has been allocated for this purpose by the Government,” he said in Kurunegala.
