Foreign returnees among infected patients

Forty (40) patients infected with Covid-19 were reported in Sri Lanka yesterday.

The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said  32 Sri Lankan foreign returnees were among the patients.

He said 27 foreign returnees were from Qatar, 3 from Kuwait and one each from Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meanwhile, 7 Navy personnel and a close associate of an infected officer were also reported among the infected patients.

With the latest detection, the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka rose to 1683, with 849 active cases.

Close to 84 persons are admitted to a number of hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 823 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital.

Eleven deaths due to COVID-19 have so far been reported in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
