The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has earned an extra income of Rs.2000 million from manufacturing and selling lubricant oil locally. Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that large amount of foreign exchange which went out of the country to import lubricant oil was saved within the country with the CPC making Lubricant Oil locally.
He said eventhough the CPC had tried to commence production of lubricant oils at their newly developed high-tech factory on many occasions, the process could not be initiated for various reasons.
However, the production is now on after Cabinet approval has been granted for the proposal submitted by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to begin lubricant oil production by the CPC.
CPC now supplies its’ lubricant oil to the market enabling motorists to buy locally made lubricant oil. The developed oil is being sent to the market under the “Ceypetco” brand name.
Minister Amaraweera yesterday visited the lubricant blending plant in Muthurajawela (Kerawalapitiya).
“The CPC will be able to produce lubricant oil with a capacity of 33 kiloliters per annum with the use of new machines,” the Minister said.
