Only one third or 50% of staff should work - DGHS

The health authorities today requested to stick to one third or half of the cadre at public and private institutions.

"Still the country is not 100 percent open and it is moving in that direction. All state and private institutions are requested to employ one third or half of their full workforce during this time. Operational Guidelines should be strictly implemented by all state and private institutions," Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

According to Dr. Jasinghe people are not allowed to travel standing in buses and trains. Wearing face masks is compulsory for all passengers. All people should wear face masks when moving with or in a crowd.

All Operational Guidelines for institutions, occasions etc. can be downloaded from the Health Ministry website. More guidelines for social events etc are to be declared today and day after.

Dr. Jasinghe pointed out that all state and private institutions will get used to practicing social distancing, practicing hand hygiene and are required to implement other COVID-19 prevention measures given to the institutions under operational guidelines.

Therefore, the country will gradually reach this “new normal” status.

Dr. Jasinghe stressed that the country is still moving towards opening 100 percent because the Colombo and Gampaha districts have the highest population density. The Navy COVID-19 cluster is still active and several COVID-19 infected Sri Lankans are returning from abroad. No COVID-19 transmission can take place in the country from any of them but the danger still persists.
