FR petition filed on behalf of Attorney-at-law Hizbullah fixed for support

A Fundamental Rights petition filed on behalf of Attorney-at-law Hejaz Hisbullah, who has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over an allegation that he had closely linked with the Easter Sunday suicide bombers was today fixed for support on June 1 by Supreme Court.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Nerin Pulle appearing for the Attorney General yesterday sought further time to peruse the petition. Supreme Court bench comprised Justice L.T.B. Dehideniya, Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Gamini Amarasekera.

Attorney-at-law Gowry Shangary Thavarasha yesterday filed this petitioner seeking an Interim Order directing the release of Hizbullah from the custody.

The Petitioner is further seeking an interim order suspending the operation of the purported Detention Order pending the final hearing and determination of this application.

The petitioner has further sought an Interim Order to immediately produce Attorney-at-law Hizbullah before the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

At a previous occasion, the father and wife of Hejaz Hizbullah had also filed two separate Habeas Corpus petitions in the Court of Appeal demanding his release.
