AG raises objections against Rajitha’s Appeal

The Attorney General today raised objections against the appeal petition filed by former Health Minister Rajitha Senaratna challenging the Colombo High Court's decision to refuse bail.

Former Health Minister Rajitha Senaratna who is in remand custody in connection with the controversial White Van Press Conference had filed an appeal before Court of Appeal challenging the judgment of Colombo High Court.

When the application came up before Court of Appeal bench comprising Justice Achala Wengappuli and Justice Priyantha Fernando, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed court that the Attorney General would raise objections requesting to dismiss the application in limine.

Through this application, former Health Minister is seeking Court of Appeal jurisdiction to set aside the High Court's order and to release him on bail accordingly.

The Colombo High Court on May 13, issued an order quashing the operation of Colombo Chief Magistrate's order to grant bail on former Health Minister at a previous occasion. Consequent to the High Court Judgment, the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered to remand Rajitha Senaratna till June 10.
