Currently, there are 4,522 persons in quarantine at 35 military-run quarantine centres, said Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva addressing the daily National Operation Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 media briefing yesterday.
He said that 1031 family members of the Navy personnel who had tested positive for Covid-19 are undergoing the quarantine procedure at military-operated quarantine centres.
Further, 296 Navy personnel have tested positive for the Coronavirus so far and the majority of them are from the Welisara Navy camp while several others were reported from other areas where they had gone home on leave.
The Commander noted that 129 persons who were in quarantine from the Beruwala area had completed their quarantine and were sent to their homes after undergoing the PCR tests yesterday.
Accordingly, 5,050 persons have returned to their homes after undergoing the quarantine procedures at military-run centres so far.
The Army Commander also expressed gratitude to the management of the Dolphin Hotel for allowing its premises to be used as a quarantine centre and currently 223 have been quarantined there.
Meanwhile, he said that a group of 208 Sri Lankans were repatriated from the UK including students and sent for quarantine to military-run quarantine centres upon their arrival in Sri Lanka yesterday.
Another group including students and state officials are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka from London today (05) and they would also be sent for quarantine.
