Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi today inspected the new building complex now being constructed at East Colombo Base Hospital (Mulleriyawa) to treat COVID-19 victims, Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, there are 500 beds in the hospital at the moment and 100 of them will be allocated for COVID-19 patients while a 30 bed ICU is to be established for serious COVID-19 cases.
Armed Forces are building the hospital under the direction of the Health Ministry. The Health Ministry has already allocated required funds to provide all needs including equipment such as beds, medical equipment etc to this hospital, he added.
