Education Minister urges media to assist children confined to their homes during holidays

Education Minister Dallas Alahapperuma today urged all media heads to intervene in assisting school children who are confined to their homes during this holiday season in collaboration with the Education Ministry.

He said this during the media briefing held at the Government Information Department recently.
The minister noted that all children from kindergarten to university are at home these days due to the prevailing situation and disengaged with their studies. Therefore, he noted that the Media have a great responsibility in ensuring they do not waste their time at home and away from their studies.

Appreciating the efforts taken by some media organisations to broadcast educational programmes for the benefit of students, the minister said that measures should be taken in the future to broadcast educational programmes prepared by the National Education Institute and programmes presented through the Education Ministry “E-Thaksalawa” web site.

The Minister also urged all media institutions to broadcast structured learning programmes during this period. He also urged all parents to structure the time spent by their children at home in a productive manner without letting it go waste.
