UK authorities agrees take back waste containers

Both Sri Lankan and United Kingdom (UK) Authorities have agreed to repatriate consignment of containers carrying waste material which are currently being stored at Colombo Port and Katunayake Free Trade Zone, the Attorney General informed Court yesterday.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Milinda Gunatilleke appearing for the Attorney General informed Court of Appeal that the discussions are underway with UK authorities to repatriate these consignments of containers.

Gunatilleke further submitted to court that Interim Order which had been issued earlier preventing any transportation or movement of imported consignments of waste materials inside the country would hinder the repatriation process.
