Three suspects in Bandaragama Rs. 200mn heroin case further remanded

Panadura Additional Magistrate Chandima Kalansuriya further remanded the three suspects involved in the case of heroin and 10 pistols seized in Bandaragama recently till February 20 pending an order of the magistrate.

The heroin seized is said to be worth Rs. 200 million.

When the three suspects, Madurapperumage Dhananjaya Dharmakumara, Madurapperumage Kanchana Priyangani and Bethmage Upeksha Jayamini, were produced before court on February 13 by the Kalutara Prison Officials, Peliyagoda Division Crime

Detection Bureau OIC Chief Inspector Jayantha submitting a report and an order signed by the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa asked for the court permission to detain the suspects and issue a detention order to the Police to keep the second suspect Kanchana Priyadharshana in Police custody for 90 days and question her to find out whether she and others were involved in ISS activities in the country. The senior lawyer produced a copy of Fundermental Right Petition filed before the Supreme Court on behalf of the second suspect Kanchana Priyadharshane challenging the President’s order.

The Chief Inspector further informed Court that the three suspects were produced before Court under the Terrorism Prevention Act and the Drugs Opium and Poison Act. The Additional Magistrate issued an order to keep the second suspect in police custody for 90 days.
