A Fundamental Rights petition filed seeking an order directing Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government to constitute a separate Pradeshiya Sabha for the village of Sainthamaruthu was today withdrawn after parties reached a settlement over the issue.
The Court was informed that the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government has already issued a Gazette notification for the establishment of a new separate Urban Council for Sainthamaruthu.
When the petition came up before Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Justice Priyantha Jayawardena, Justice L.T.B. Dehideniya, the petitioners sought court’s permission to withdraw the application since they have already received the relief.
This petition had been filed by Mohamed Aliyar Faleel and Mohamed Kandu,Nawfar, the residents of Sainthamaruthu naming Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government and several others as respondents.
