Remains of Lankan students to be repatriated

The postmortem in regard to the deaths of the three Sri Lankan students who were studying at Western Caspian University in Baku Azerbaijan has been completed at the Republic Hospital in Baku, Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Relations in a communiqué said.

The Foreign Ministry is presently coordinating to repatriate the remains of the deceased three Sri Lankan students who died in Azerbaijan on 9 January, to Sri Lanka at state expense upon the completion of necessary documentation, it added.

Three Sri Lankan female students studying in the Western Caspian University in Baku, Azerbaijan, were killed in a fire that broke out in their apartment, last week.

They had died from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire caused by an electric short circuit

The three victims are residents of Kaduwela and Piliyandala.

They were 21, 23 and 25 years old and two of them are sisters of the same family.
