Justice will be ensured to all - Chamal

The Government will not formulate any new laws or file cases but its only intention is to find the culprits who resort to various crimes and ensure justice to all, Minister of Agriculture and Mahaweli Development Chamal Rajapaksa said.

Punishments will be meted out to all worn-doers despite their caste, creed and social status in keeping with the law, Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said.

His was speaking at the inauguration programme of the Bandagiriya tank renovation project under the ‘2020 Waari Saubhagya ‘(Irrigation Prosperity) at Badagiriya, Hambantota.

“The current government will not safeguard culprits under any circumstance. If the culprit is a government official, there is a procedure to carry out investigations.

“None of the complaints received will be swept under the rug.Therefore, the citizens are open to complain regarding any issue they face,” he said.

“Moreover, he said that there is an issue regarding the price of rice. Yet the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) is supplying rice at a concessionary price,” the Minister said. “The Paddy Marketing Board is only distributing rice to CWE. Therefore, the CWE has become the main distributor. Many consume ‘Nadu’ rice. Therefore, the issue is minimized up to some extent. We hear that ‘Nadu rice ‘has been allegedly used as animal feed during the previous regime. I cannot take responsibility about the flaws of the previous government,” Minister Rajapaksa said.

He also added that steps will be taken to control the prices of all the rice varieties in the near future.

“Youth are engaged in cultivating paddy on barren lands. We are ready to give our fullest support in this regard. Farmers must also get used to the practice of using carbonic fertilizer instead of chemical fertilizer. A recent study revealed that Sri Lanka to be a country that uses chemical fertilizers in a major way. This has resulted in Cancer and Kidney diseases afflicting our people.
