Influenza outbreak in SL is a fake news - Dr. Anil Jasinghe

A fabricated fake message in social media on Infuenza outbreak in Sri Lanka is now circulating as a notice issued by the Health Ministry.

The Ministry of Health has informed the public that the Health Ministry has not released fake news about influenza that is circulating on social media.

Anyway the public should not panic about Influenza because it is not cause by an unidentified new virus, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

The common cold fever known as seasonal influenza virus, or flu, cough is often cured without any medications. Dr. Jasinghe pointed out that the persons in high risk categories such as older people (above 65years) or very young children (bellow 2 years), pregnant women, lactating mothers, people with suppressed immunity and those with chronic diabetes, chronic obstructive airways disease, heart, liver, kidney and metabolic diseases, persons who underwent major surgeries recently, etc should seek medical treatment for influenza from a qualified doctor because their health conditions can be worsen due to Influenza.
