‘Government to eliminate extremism after general elections’

Matale District SLPP Coordinator Rohana Dissanayake speaking at the event.

Following the next general election, the government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would leave no room for extremism in the country, Matale District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Coordinator Rohana Dissanayake said. He was speaking at a press conference held at his residence in Matale, to announce that he would contest the next general election from the SLPP.

Dissanayake said that if he were to win, he would serve the people in the Matale District, unlike the politicians of the previous government.

"With the election of Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the President, new development projects have been launched in the country," Dissanayake said. "Many attempted to bring our political career to an end, but I, too, joined to bring Mahinda Rajapaksa back to politics after his defeat in 2015," he added.

Queried by the media, Dissanayake said that MP Ranjan Ramanayake's behaviour is indecent. He added that whatever the United National Party (UNP) says now, they brought Ranjan Ramanayake to politics with full knowledge of his behaviour.

"Now the UNP wants to cancel his party membership to get rid of the disgrace, but it is impossible," he said, adding that the dwindling economy of pepper, cinnamon, rubber, and vegetables would be rejuvenated under the new government.
