Global Fund to provide 20 million Euro to support health projects


The Global Fund will provide 20 million Euros to Sri Lanka for 2020 - 2022 period with the assistance of the German Government, Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman , the funds will be used to modernize all laboratories in state hospitals and to provide ten machines of Digital X-Ray.
The Global Fund Project Director Pubudu De Zoysa stated this during a meeting held with Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi recently.

Since 2003, the Global Fund had provided Rs. 18.3 Billion to Sri Lanka to control TB, Malaria and sexually transmitted diseases.

 The projects are aimed at eliminating HOV/AIDS from Sri Lanka by 2025 (in another  five years time) and TB by 2030 (in another 10 years time), he said.

Projects funded by the Global Fund for the period of 2019 to 2012 are now in progress in Sri Lanka. The fund has already provided several high tech medical equipment such as Gene Expert machines, Digital X-Ray bus etc, he added.
