Five arrested in Unawatuna businesswoman’s murder

Five suspects were arrested by Habaraduwa Police in connection with the murder of a 34 year old woman hotelier in Yakdehimulla in Unawatuna, Galle.

The suspects from Ambalangoda and Avissawella are between 29 to 37.

Police have found that the criminal who had shot her is a Police Special Task Force deserter and had been specially trained in VIP security. The manna knife which had been used for the crime was found thrown into a canal in Ambalangoda and the weapon used for the shooting was found from the suspect.The motorcycle and the car used by the criminals to commit the crime were also found by police. They had rented the car.

Nilika Chamali Wilasitha (34) the owner of Mid-Town House restaurant of Unawatuna was shot dead at the hotel premises in front of her seven year child.

It has been revealed that the murder had been done on a contract of Rs. 2.3 million to kill her by her husband who is employed overseas.Investigations further reveal that the alleged conspiring husband had paid the contract money in Euro currency out which Rs one million had been paid to the two criminals who killed the woman by cutting her neck and subsequently by shooting. The balance amount had been equally distributed among the other three suspects. However an alleged incident of soliciting to murder her on a separate contract of Rs.3 million arranged also by her husband abroad had been reported to the police a few months ago before the her murder. A woman and a man were arrested on suspicion by Galle police in June last year. The same case is on trial at the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
